Community Outreach
Lewes Community Garden (LCG) has made giving back to the community one of its core values. Our leadership and gardeners embrace this value by planting extra in their gardens so they can provide fresh, organic food to those in need.
Our Partners
We partner with area non-profits for mutual support and to achieve our goal of giving back to the community. In 2022, we are partnered with the following community organizations. We thank them for their support and collaboration!
-
City of Lewes Parks and Marina Department
The community garden is located in the Great Marsh Park, which is managed by the city’s Parks and Marina department staff. The city supports the garden by providing space.
-
Greater Lewes Foundation (GLF)
The Foundation serves as our 501(c)(3), which means all financial donations to LCG are made to the foundation and then passed on to LCG.
-
Sussex County Master Gardeners
The Master Gardeners provide us with education and support to grow our knowledge and practice of organic gardening. We provide them with opportunities to earn their volunteer hours.
-
Teach a Person to Fish Society (TPF)
We provide TPF with weekly produce donations (e.g. tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, melons) during the growing season. This produce is passed on to those in need and is used to create healthy meals for those living in shelters. Generally we donate about 500 pounds of produce during the growing season.
Our Beneficiaries
We give back to the community by providing tangible support to local organizations and the people they help. Teach a Person to Fish coordinates and delivers our produce to the following 2022 beneficiaries where it is most needed:
-
Community Resource Center (CRC)
We provide weekly produce donations and produce used for prepared meals for individuals and families in need.
-
Epworth United Methodist Church
We provide weekly produce donations and produce used for prepared meals for individuals and families in need.
-
Milton Community Food Pantry
We provide weekly produce donations to the pantry for them to distribute to their clients.
-
Westside New Beginnings
We provide deliveries of breakfast food and snacks (not grown in our garden but donated by our gardeners) for their children and youth program.
